Sophos Anti-Virus version 9 is supported for use with mainstream Linux distributions such as RedHat Linux and UBUNTU.
System Requirements – include information about distributions of Linux supported by Sophos Antivirus v.9.
Note to UBUNTU users. Please use release v.10.4LTS of UBUNTU, or better, in order to have on-access scanning available without having to modify the kernel.
You must have “root” privileges to install Sophos AV. The installer script will first unpack compressed files and then will attempt to connect to the Sophos server using the embedded set of access credentials to download all necessary files, including current virus definitions. The Internet connection must be active during this process.

The entire process can take some time depending of the speed of your connection to the Internet. Don’t be surprised if it takes 5 to 10 minutes or longer. The process will typically end with a message indicating successful conclusion.
Post-installation Notes
- UW distribution of Sophos AV for Linux is preconfigured to install the application in the following directory on your computer:
/opt/sophos-av - The graphical interface is turned off. The on-access scan option is turned on. To turn on graphical interface after installation, run as “root” /opt/sophos-av/bin/savsetup .
- Manage the installed Sophos AV using web interface by default on port 8081 <http://localhost:8081>
- Some distributions of Linux will only support on demand scan. Please refer to the Supported Kernels information to determine if your OS supports on-access scan.
- If your system uses kernel 2.6.37+ and fails to build or install on-access scan option you could use the alternate solution “Fanotify” instead of the supported by Sophos “Talpa”. More information on this option can be found here Fanotify Overview

As you know Sophos Endpoint in addition to Windows support is also supported on MacOS, but most users often use Windows, so installing Sophos Endpoint for MacOS is still unfamiliar.
Today’s article thegioifirewall will guide you how to install Sophos Endpoint on a computer running MacOS.
2.What to do ?

3. Configuration
3.1 Download the Sophos Endpoint installation file for MacOS
To download we need to visit https://central.sophos.com and log in with the admin account.
After logging into Protect Devices> Endpoint Protection and select Download Complete macOS installer to download the file.
After clicking Donwload Complete macOS Installer, a bulletin board appears asking if you can download this file, click Allow.
3.2 Install Sophos Endpoint
After downloading the Sophos Endpoint installation file successfully, the file will be saved in the Download folder.
After entering the Download folder, access the Sophos Install folder and double-click the Sophos Installer file to start the installation process.

The Sophos Installer panel appears, click Install.
When installing a new software, Mac will ask the user to enter the machine’s password, so after clicking Install, a login box appears, you need to enter the device’s password and click Install Helper.
The installation will take about 10 minutes.
After successful installation Sophos will ask for some permissions such as Full Disk Access and Sophos extensions so that the software can display warnings when users violate, have viruses, … and to serve features such as monitoring web access, applications,
After the installation is complete, there will be 2 notifications on the right, click Allow to allow Sophos to display notifications.
Next, there is a System Extension Blocked bulletin board to Allow for this, click Open Security Preferences.
The Security & Privacy panel appears on the General tab, click the lock in the lower left corner and enter the password of the machine so we can configure.
After unlocking we notice the line System software from developer “Sophos” was blocked from loading we press Allow on the right side of this line to authorize the Sophos Endpoint application.
Next we need to give Sophos permission Full Disk Access to be able to use the features of checking web access, apps, …
To grant permissions we click on the notification bar at the top right of the machine, we will see a message Full disk access required left click on that message.
The Sophos Endpoint table appears, which will show the steps we need to take to grant Full Disk Access permissions.
First they left click on the words Open “Security & Privacy” preferences.
Sophos Home For Mac
The Security & Privacy panel appears, you need to click on the lock in the lower left corner and enter the machine’s password to perform the configuration.
Next, you drag and drop the Sophos icon in the Sophos Endpoint table to the Security & Privacy panel.
Then a message will appear, click Quit Now to complete.
Return to the Sophos Central page, you access the Device section and get the MacOS device displayed in the list of devices that have successfully installed Sophos Endpoint.
